T2-T3 ASIA A flaccid tetraplegia

  • Motor system and sensory system: T3 level.
  • Bowels: cannot feel when bowels are full; passes stools every day normally by pushing with his abdominal muscles and with hands on his abdomen.
  • Bladder: cannot feel when bladder is full; 5 catherisations per day; 3 bladder infections a year.
  • Intimate sensations: erection; ejaculation from time to time.

1. Independence

  • 25 April 2003: collected his KAFOs made on measure by Mr Miallet in Bourges, France.
  • 23 April 2004: turns over in bed while sleeping; easier to move in bed.

2. Stability

  • Able to stand in his KAFOs between bars without holding the bars.
  • 5 April 2004: when standing, feels pressure in his low back muscles.
  • 8 April 2004: is able to stand with crutches.

3. Mobility

  • Arnar can feel his hips when walking or moving.

4. Walking

  • Normal walk in his KAFOs between bars, by pushing a walker, or on a treadmill.
  • 8 April 2004: begins to walk with 2 crutches.

4. Sensory level

  • Touch:
    2 April 2004: down to junction of dermatom T4-T5 on his front (below the nipple level); down to T12 on his back.
  • Pressure:
    2 April 2004: down to junction of dermatom T4-T5 on his front (below the nipple level); down to dermatom T10 on his left side (back), and T11 on his right side - at the level of vertebra T12 (back).
  • Pain: nil.
    7 April 2004: sprained slightly his right ankle and felt pain.
  • Hot: nil.
  • Cold: nil.
  • Pinprick:
    Down to dermatom T4 on left side and T5 on right side.
